Boys Group “Connecting With Others”

Social skills are necessary for children to get along well with others and to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence.  This class will focus on how to engage in appropriate and meaningful conversations as well as making and maintaining friendships.  Working in a small group will allow each student the opportunity for greater participation as well as understanding the points of view and perspectives of others.  The topics that we will focus on include:

I.  Making Friends

  • Identify friendly actions
  • Make polite requests
  • Meet new people and join groups
  • What is an argument and how to make apologies

II.  Conversations

  • Initiate, maintain, and close conversations
  • Take appropriate turns to share conversations equally
  • Use appropriate speaking and listening behaviors
  • Role play and evaluate conversations
