G.I.R.L.S. (Girls in Real Life Situations)

In our society, we are often reminded from day to day how our girls are growing up faster than what we may desire.  Girls are struggling with difficulties regarding self-esteem, positive thinking, decision making, and friendships at early ages.  Girls in Real Life Situations (G.I.R.L.S.) is designed to give girls the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings, talk out difficulties that they are experiencing, and get ideas and suggestions on how to empower themselves in situations from girls experiencing similar difficulties.  The activities and discussions are intended to be preventative and proactive in order to develop positive coping mechanisms and improve problem solving skills when facing difficult social and peer situations.  The topics that we plan to cover include:

  • Assertive actions and thoughts
  • Communication styles and how to communicate assertively with others
  • Inner qualities and how they shape our personalities
  • Recognizing and rewarding ourselves for accomplishments
  • Setting goals
  • Independence and when it is important to ask for help
